Photos: 17-year-old driver ran in front of an InterCity train
Rail traffic is suspended between Nagykőrös and Cegléd because the Torontál InterCity train from Szeged to Nyugati Railway Station collided with a car at a level crossing in Cegléd, Mávinform told MTI on Monday morning. The Pest County Police Headquarters informed police.hu that a 17-year-old boy died in the accident.
Mávinform wrote that no train passengers were injured; the light barrier at the level crossing was working properly, with a red light. According to Mávinform, a replacement bus was dispatched to transport the passengers to their destination.
IC trains between Budapest and Szeged are running with a longer travel time due to the replacement bus transfer, they added.
The train collided with a van at the Dohány Street level crossing in Cegléd.
The driver of the vehicle was trapped in the truck, and the Cegléd firefighters started to extricate him with a crowbar, they said.
The Pest County Police Headquarters later said that
the 17-year-old driver – according to primary data – drove into the railway crossing despite the forbidden signal of the traffic light, where he collided with the train. The young man died of his injuries on the spot.
The Traffic Police Department of the Cegléd Police Station is investigating the circumstances of the accident, police said.
